Daylight or bust

Top news story this morning was that yet again there's a campaign to keep daylight savings time all year round.

The argument for the change is the same one as usual - more light for kids in the afternoon after school.  Of course since that argument has repeatedly failed, it's been bolstered by the usual green agenda and the claim it would prevent 50 gazillion carbon dioxides entering the atmosphere.

I really can't see the point of changing anything.  By moving the daylight from the morning to the end of the day, lights will be on for the same duration so the carbon footprint really won't change and most kids are home before it gets dark anyway.  Even assuming it does give them a bit of extra light in the afternoon, they'll just end up going to school in the dark instead so again not much difference.

The biggest reason for not changing though us just that time is only what we call it.  If you want more daylight in the evening then just get up earlier! Some jobs are sunlight sensitive (farming for instance as cows don't know the time, only that the sun's up) but everyone else should just get up earlier and finish earlier if it's that important.

It'd make no difference to me though - I'd still be coming home in the dark even with another hour, as would most of the population.

Rant over :)
