Most people following the world cup stories recently will have heard about the 36 Dutch women who were not allowed to finish watching the Holland vs Denmark game on monday because they were advertising a non-FIFA approved brand.
While FIFA should be allowed to protect its commercial interests and make sure that sponsors of the world cup get value for money, this seems way over the top.
At first glance, it's just a bunch of women in the crowd wearing orange dresses (as per every other punter at the game). It's only on *very* close examination that the brand becomes visible.
What's next, kicking people out if they have a Nike or Puma sign on their trainers?
Ironically by kicking up such a fuss, FIFA has probably done more to advertise the brand than the "ambush marketing" in the first place.
